- ASPIRE
April 21-22, 2008: A project meeting has gathered about 20 contributors to the ASPIRE project in Brussels.
Aspire aims at providing SMEs an open source middleware to reduce the cost barriers to RFID deployment.
This meeting has given the OW@INRIA team the opportunity to share its work with the project partners:
first, the writing of a state-of-the-art document on RFID tools and middleware, with the contribution of various partners;
next, the first step of the definition of the architecture of a framework for concurrent innovation management, which will continue with the definition of use cases;
last, an explanation of the legal options for open source software management, for partners to be able to express their requirements,
in order to select the most appropriate licensing approach.
OW@INRIA also reported the activities related to the adoption of the software development project by the OW2 consortium.
The next meeting is planned in Greece, by end of June.
- QualiPSo
Feb 5-6, 2008: First Qualipso review was held in Brussels, Belgium.
QualiPSo is a unique alliance of European, Brazilian and Chinese ICT industry players, SMEs, governments and academics to help industries and governments fuel innovation and competitiveness with Open Source software.
QualiPSo is the ever largest Open Source initiative funded by the European Commission under EU’s sixth framework program (FP6), as part of the Information Society Technologies (IST) initiative.
- ASPIRE
January 24-25th, 2008: The FP7 Call 1 project named ASPIRE is kicked off in Aalborg, Denmark.
With 10 partners, an EC contribution of 4.7M€ and a duration of 3 years, the aim of this project is to research and provide a radical change in the current RFID deployment paradigm through innovative, programmable, royalty-free, lighweight and privacy friendly middleware.
This new middleware paradigm will be particular beneficial to European SME, which are nowadays experiencing significant cost-barriers to RFID deployment.
Within the project, the OW@INRIA team will design and develop a Collaborative environment to manage Radical Innovation development.
- Asia-Invest
January 10th, 2008: The OW2 Consortium has joined the FOSS-Bridge project as a networking partner.
The main funders of the FOSS-Bridge are the European Commission with its Asia Invest program and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The main goal of FOSS-Bridge is to stengthen Southeast Asian Software industries and to boost cooperation with Europe through innovative collaboration on FOSS and business development.
FOSS-Bridge provides a platform for matchmaking between European and Vietnamese partners.
Capacity building and technological transfer of know-how around Free and Open Source Software between Europe and Vietnam is ensured.
FOSS-Bridge also supports companies from Vietname and Europe to set up joint projects and businesses.
